World No. 1 Novak Djokovic set records after beating Tsitsipas at Mutua Madrid Open finals

Djokovic who is enjoying his World No. 1 rank since the last few months is continuing his winning stints and now, he is creating few records under his name. Greek star player Stefanos Tsitsipas who made headlines since his entry into the professional tennis. Stefanos Tsitsipas World No. 7 player had shocked the world by defeating the Great Rafael Nadal in the semi-final and reached the finals of Madrid Open. He very well knew that it was not going to be an easy task in the finals against the Djokovic.

Novak Djokovic went into attacking mode form the very first serve. Tsitsipas who had a long tiring match against Nadal, looking exhausted and failed to give his best against the best in the important final clash. Tsitsipas tried all he could do but he was still a step behind the master class of Djokovic who just made 18 errors and zero double faults so far at Madrid Open. Djokovic went on to beat in two straight sets (6-3, 6-4).

This victory not only handed him the Madrid Open title but also a record of 33 ATP Masters 1000 title and 53rd Big title. Now Djokovic is sharing this record with Rafael Nadal. The victory was also his 200th victory against the top 10 ranking players. His upcoming Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome can hand him the 34th title and will be overtaking Nadal after 2017 Madrid.

The title in Rome will also make him sit beside Roger Federer with 54 big wins. With his consistency, he has joined the elite group of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.
