The biggest match of World Cup 2019 played between India and Pakistan at Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester. India won by 89 runs with the help of a DLS method in partially rain-affected game. Rohit’s Master Class 140 runs innings guided India to win over Pakistan in Match no. 22 of Cricket World Cup 2019.
Pakistan won the toss and opted to bowl first. In the absences of Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul joined Rohit Sharma to open the Indian team batting. An Opening partnership gave a fantastic start and built 136 runs partnership for the first wicket. KL had scored 57 runs from 78 balls which included 3 fours and 2 sixes. A massive inning from the Indian team Captain who had scored 77 off 65 balls with a strike rate of 118.46 which included 7 fours. Rohit smashed his second century in this World Cup. The Indian team had put a huge total of 336 runs in 50 overs with the loss of 5 wickets. Mohammad Aamir had picked 3 wickets, Wahab Riaz and Hasan Ali collected one wicket each.
Pakistan team needed to build a good opening partnership from their openers for chasing a huge target of 337 runs, but in the 5th over Bhuvneshwar Kumar got an injury and Vijay Shankar replaced him who gave breakthrough on the first ball of his spell. Shankar becomes the only 4th bowler to pick a wicket in the World Cup debut match and first Indian to achieve this feat.
Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman had built 104 runs partnership and kept Pakistan team hopes alive to stay in the game. Kuldeep Yadav who was struggling with his form has come back good in the match and picked 2 big wickets of Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman in short span and left Pakistan team struggling. Fakhar Zaman was the only player who had scored half-century for the Pakistan team. He scored 62 runs from 75 balls which included 7 fours and 1 six. Babar Azam and Imad Wasim have scored 48 and 46 runs respectively. Apart from these three players, no other player had scored 20+ runs for Pakistan team and lost wickets in regular intervals. At 35th over the match stopped due to rain but by the time Pakistan’s score was 166 with the loss of 6 wickets and they were far behind the DLS par score.
The Match resumed after a while and the match reduced to 40 overs and the target was hefty 136 runs from 5 overs. By the end of the game, Pakistan team scored 212 runs with the loss of 6 wickets in 40 overs. The Indian team won the match by 89 runs with the help of Duckworth Lewis method. Vijay Shankar, Hardik Pandya, and Kuldeep Yadav had picked 2 wickets each.
Rohit Sharma was awarded the second ‘Man of the Match’ of this tournament so far for his Master-Class Century which helped Indian to register a victory against Pakistan. He scored 140 runs from 113 balls with a notable strike rate of 123.89 which included 14 fours and 3 sixes.
